The first levels of practice such as leaping, tumbling, proper falling techniques, body conditioning form the basis for taijutsu, these techniques are necessary in order to progress into other techniques such as the use of tools and weapons. Once learned Taijutsu techniques can be applied to any situation, armed or unarmed.
Budo Taijutsu study consists of:

* Jutaijutsu (throwing, grappling, ground fighting, choking & escaping holds of others)
* Dakentaijutsu (strikes, kicks & blocking)
* Koshijutsu (nerve point striking)

Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu practice doesn't include participation in competitions or contests, as the dojo’s training aims to develop the skills to protect one's self and others. The philosophy of Ninjutsu does not adhere to any guidelines or set of rules to limit action or techniques during training
The Bujinkan Dojo “Divine Warrior Training Hall” is Grand master Masaaki Hatsumi’s international organisation for teaching the essence of nine ancient Japanese martial traditions . The combat system taught by this organisation are collectively referred to as Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu.
The Bujinkan is most commonly associated with Ninjutsu. However, Masaaki Hatsumi uses the term Budo (meaning martial way) as he says the ryuha are descended from historical Samurai schools that teach Samurai martial tactics and Ninjutsu schools that teach Ninja tactics.
Developed by the legendary Ninja and Samurai of feudal Japan, Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu comprises ancient Japanese Kobudo martial arts.
The term “ninpo” refers to the group of martial traditions and philosophy that were utilized to combat the extreme violence that plagued Japan during the Sengoku (“Warring States”) Period and directly afterwards.
Bujinkan unarmed and armed movement focus on the efficient use of the entire body (“taijutsu”) to achieve maximum effectiveness. It is not a sport. Rather, training is centered on Jissen Gata or Combat Fighting.
Ninjutsu, or ninpo, is a collection of adaptable survival techniques that allows one to face the uncertainties of life and to respond to dangerous situations through physical and psychological discipline, where one uses orthodox weapons in unorthodox ways.
Gavin Barton started training in 1995 at the dojo of Bujinkan instructor Dion Kalos in Chatswood on Sydney’s North Shore. After trying some of the more sports orientated martial arts and searching through his local area for the right fit, Gavin found his place studying the techniques of the Bujinkan. He was intrigued by what Ninjutsu had to offer in its repertoire of training.
He is passionate about his training in the Bujinkan Arts and sees it as a life long journey and a constant learning experience.
Throughout his training career he has had the privilege of training with instructors in Australia as well as Malaysia, USA, Thailand and Japan.
After receiving his 3rd Dan he decided to start his own dojo (Toukon Bujutsu). The dojo was located in the Hornsby area on Sydney's North Shore.
Recently moved to Brisbane, Gavin's personal martial journey has taken a dramatic shift in a new positive direction in the study of the Koryu arts of the Bujinkan and of self discovery with the dojo continuing in a new location in Tarragindi.
Today Gavin is as committed to the journey as the day he started.
He is constantly amazed at the depth of knowledge there is to still discover in the ryuha of the Bujinkan and looks forward to a lifetime of practice to find out.
Anyone old enough to competently have self-control and a respectable attitude is welcome to train at Toukon Bujutsu Bujinkan Hornsby Dojo. Those who can abide by the rules of the dojo and the Guidelines of the Bujinkan are welcome to take part in training.
You do not need a specific level of fitness to begin your martial arts journey. All you require is a willingness to learn and have an open, sincere heart. Teaching will be tailored to cater to the level of training of each individual. Everyone starts at Beginner or White belt and progression within the system is up to the individual and is a very personal endeavour. Each person’s martial journey is unique and should never be compared to another’s.
The Kids & Youth classes offer participants the chance to learn techniques, not only to defend themselves, but also to cope with the increasing pressures that are placed on them every day. By studying the techniques of the ninja, they will develop self-awareness, focus, determination, discipline and confidence in themselves. All of these will build a strong character inside and outside of the dojo.
The focus of the program for our younger martial artists is on Respect and Manners. This is done through sincere study of the techniques and customs that are a part of the Bujinkan.
All training members of the Dojo must sign a waiver before commencing Bujinkan training accepting responsibility and liability for any injuries and/or accidents that may occur during training.

1. The Bujinkan shall be open to only those who agree with and uphold the guidelines of the Bujinkan Dojo. Those not doing so shall not be allowed to join. Specifically: Only those who have read and agreed with these guidelines shall be allowed to participate.
2. Only those able to exercise true patience, self-control, and dedication shall be allowed to participate. A physician's examination report shall be required. Specifically, individuals with mental illness, drug addiction, or mental instability shall be barred from joining. The necessity of such a report concerns individuals who may present a danger to others, for example, those with infectious diseases or illnesses, individuals with clinically abnormal personalities or physiology, and individuals lacking self-control.
3. Individuals with criminal records shall be turned away. Trouble makers, those who commit crimes, and those living in Japan who break domestic laws shall be turned away.
4. Those not upholding the guidelines of the Bujinkan, either as practitioners or as members of society, by committing disgraceful or reproachable acts shall be expelled. Until now, the Bujinkan was open to large numbers of people who came to Japan. Among them, unfortunately, were those committing violent drunken acts, the mentally ill, and trouble makers who thought only of themselves and failed to see how their actions might adversely affect others. Through their actions, such people were discarding the traditional righteous heart of the Bujinkan. From this day forward, all such people shall be expelled.
5. Regarding accidents occurring during training (both inside and outside the dojo), one should not cause trouble to the Bujinkan. This is an extremely important point. Those unwilling to take personal responsibility for accidents occurring during Bujinkan training shall not be admitted. Reiterating for clarity, the Bujinkan shall not take responsibility for any accidents happening in the course of training, regardless of the location.
6. All those joining the Bujinkan must get an annual membership card. This card not only preserves the honor of the Bujinkan members, it indicates you are part of a larger whole--one whose members come together with warrior hearts to better themselves through training and friendship. It evinces the glory of warrior virtue, and embodies both loyalty and brotherly love.
7. The tradition of the Bujinkan recognizes nature and the universality of all human life, and is aware of that which flows naturally between the two parts:
•"The secret principle of Taijutsu is to know the foundations of peace.
•To study is the path to the immovable heart (fudoshin)."
Recently, the Bujinkan has become truly international. Just as there are various time zones, so exist various taboos among the world's peoples and nations. We must respect each other, striving to avoid such taboos. We must put the heart of the warrior first, working together for self-improvement and for the betterment of the Bujinkan.
Those not upholding the above-mentioned guidelines shall be forced out of the Bujinkan.
